Burlington, Michigan49029

Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Burlington is situated on the St. Joseph River in southern Calhoun County on M-60, about five miles west of US-27. This is a small, rural community supported by local highway traffic and its relative location to the greater Coldwater, Marshall and Battle Creek areas. It contains a couple of stores, a post office, a tavern, and the township hall, (with the township of the same name).
Burlington was named after a Union gunboat that fought on the Great Lakes in the War of 1812. Two brothers who fought in that war, Ansel and William Adams, gave it the name when they moved here in 1833. The town received a post office in 1838, with the railroad coming through shortly afterwards. It was incorporated as a village in 1869.
