Tyrone Township Kent County, Michigan Tyrone Township is located in the northwest corner of Kent County. The township hall is located in Kent City. A noteworthy feature of the area is Howard Christensen Nature Center, operated by Kent County Intermediate School District as an outdoor education center. Located on scenic Red Pine drive and surrounded by state game land, it is a beautiful site for hiking, cross-country skiing, and birdwatching.

Tyrone Township was first settled in 1849 by a Mrs. Louisa Scott and her family. They opened a boarding house for men who were the working on building the state roads in that region. The township eventually organized in 1855.
