Hemlock is a small farming community in northwestern Saginaw County in Richland Township. It was originally named Hemlock City in 1869, after the vast amount of Hemlock trees which covered the area then. It grew during the lumbering era, when the Saginaw Valley & St. Louis Railroad came through here, bringing along settlers and civilization. The name was changed to Hemlock in 1895. Hemlock today has survived throughout the years as an agricultural community, retaining its small-town atmosphere. It is governed by the township. |
