Pleasanton Township is located in northwestern Manistee County. It is a hilly area, consisting primarily of small farms and wooded areas. Its southwest corner contains most of Bear Lake, one of the county's largest lakes. It also contains Glover Lake, a remote fishing spot, complete with public access area.

Although there are no major communities located there at present, It used to contain the town of Pleasanton. It was first settled in 1864 by Rev. George B. Pierce. He became the postmaster that same year. The town remained until about 1910, when many towns in Michigan disbanded after the peak of the Lumber Era.
