Lake George is part of Lincoln Township in western Clare County in what is known locally as the "Lakes Section." It is actually situated between two lakes, Lake George to the south and Shingle Lake to the north. It is easily accessed off US-10 on County Road 1232, about 10 miles north. This is a highly developed resort area with many year-around homes and cottages. A park on each lake offers plenty of recreational opportunities and boat access.
This town began as a lumber camp in 1880, founded by George Lake. It grew as a result of being given a station on the Toledo, Ann Arbor and Northern Railroad. It never incorporated as a village or city, but remains under the jurisdiction of the Township. |
