Population: 13,604 (1990). Lincoln Charter Township is located in Berrien County just south of the St. Joseph - Benton Harbor metro area. Highway I-94 runs north and south through this wide spread suburban area resting on the shores of Lake Michigan. Its largest municipality is Stevensville, with its four-day "Discover Stevensville" Festival each July. The township features several scenic parks, including Grand Mere State Park south of Stevensville on Thorton Road. It is characterized by magnificent sand dunes, deep blowouts, three inland lakes and a mile of Lake Michigan shoreline. Traveling west on Grand Mere Road from Stevensville, takes you to North Lake Park, with a picnic area, shelter, BBQ grills, boat launch, fishing, swimming, ice skating, nature study and playground area. North of Grand Mere on Notre Dame Road is Lincoln Township Park and Nature Center, featuring a lovely boardwalk and easy access to the beach. Also, east of Stevensville, at John Beers and Roosevelt Roads, is Community Center Park of Lincoln Township which offers a picnic area, pavilion, tennis courts, playground, soccer fields, baseball diamond, ice skating, and restrooms. |
