Gilmore Township, Michigan
Gilmore Township is located on the Lake Michigan shoreline just south of Elberta in western Benzie County. This extremely small township, consisting of only about 5 square miles was once part of Blaine Township, until it split off in 1876. It was named after John Gilmore, the first pioneer newspaper publisher in the area. This township is functionally considered part of Elberta, and shares the use of Elberta’s town hall.
