Emerson Township composes the central, near-eastern region of Gratiot County, with its southwest corner touching the tip of Ithaca, the county seat. This is a major agricultural area with dry beans and corn the primary products. This township was organized in 1855 and named after William Imisson, an English Pioneer. A major feature of this area includes the Methodist Church, (circa 1879), located at the intersection of Tyler and Baldwin Roads in the township�s center, and maintained by the Gratiot County Historical Society.
