Acme is an unincorporated community in the township, situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 31 and Michigan State Highway 72 on the East Arm of the Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. It is about 10 miles east of Traverse City at 44°46'19?N, 85°30'05?W. The ZIP code is 49610 and the FIPS place code is 00180.
Acme Township's climate is greatly affected by its location on the Grand Traverse Bay. This quasi-marine climate moderates changes in temperature and precipitation and allows a longer frost-free growing period for plants than would be at this latitude. The average growing season for the township is approxiametly 120-140 days and the average annual rainfall is 29 inches. The average daily maximum and minimum teperatures in January are 30 degrees F and 17 degrees F, and in July are 82 degrees F and 59 degrees F. The average snowfall is 70-80 inches.
