Schoolcraft County, Michigan

|
Schoolcraft County is located in the mid-eastern section of
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, along the northern shoreline of Lake Michigan. It
was named after Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, who was the first Indian Agent for the
State of Michigan in the 1830’s, and a major explorer and platter of
Michigan’s undeveloped land at that time. Although known history in this area
dates back to 1634, when Father Francis Baraga established a mission here,
archeological findings have discovered people to have lived in the land back to
500 BC. |
