Ingham County was settled in 1834 and was named after Andrew
Jackson's Secretary of the Treasury, Samuel D. Ingham. Ingham county's largest
community is Lansing, Michigan's state capitol. Although Detroit was Michigan's
first capitol city, a controversy arose about moving the capitol to a more
central location: A political battle ensued and Lansing Township emerged as a
suitable compromise location in 1847. |
