Webberville is located on the northeastern border of Ingham County, near the junctions of M-43, M-52 and I-96. This is primarily an agricultural community, with a large elevator complex located to the west of town. A major point of interest is a historic school building, still in use, located in the northeast quadrant. The town contains several small businesses and also functions ad an adjunct community to the greater Lansing area.

Webberville was first settled in 1837 by Ephraim Meech. It was originally named Phelpstown, after David Phelps, host of the first town meeting. Renamed LeRoy in 1850, for Daniel LeRoy, Michigans first Attorney General, it remained by that name until the post office closed for various reasons in 1862. In 1867, the village was moved one mile and reorganized, and since another town named LeRoy in Michigan had been organized during the closing, it was renamed Webberville, this time after the postmaster, Hubert P. Webber . It was eventually incorporated as a village in 1883.
