Walker is a growing northwestern suburb of the Grand Rapids area. It is bordered on the north by Alpine Township, on the west by Ottawa County, on the south by Wyoming and Grandville and on the east by Grand Rapids and the Grand River. The city offices are located on Remembrance Road and 3 Mile. Key shopping areas include the Alpine Ave. area just north of I-96 and
Standale.
This town was first named Indian Creek, after a local stream, when it was originally settled in 1836 by the Samuel White and Jessie Smith families from Canada. It was re-named Walker after the township in 1884 when a post office and train depot were built as a result of the Detroit, Grand Haven and Milwaukee RR building a line through the area.
