Twining is situated in north-central Arenac County on M-65. It was named after lumberman Fredrick Twining, who in 1897 was responsible for getting the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad to put a station there. It incorporated into a village in 1903. Today, it remains a small, rural farming community with small businesses, a post office and a local school.
