Tecumseh, Michigan49286

Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Tecumseh is located in northeastern Lenawee County, about eight miles north of Adrian. It is the second largest city in the county, and is situated on the River Raisin. Its economy is supported by various kinds of small business and industry, including health care, communications equipment and auto parts such as compressors and condensers. On the east of town, a community center housed in a refurbished old mill sits next to a picturesque park on a lake formed by a dam on the river.
Tecumseh was first settled in 1824 by three Quakers, Joseph W. Brown, Musgrove Evans and Austin E. Wing. Evans became the first postmaster that same year, and named the town after the great Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh. It functioned as the first county seat from 1826-1837. It was incorporated as a village in 1837, and later as a city in 1953.
