Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Reed City has many great summer events. The annual Crossroads Picnic Showcase starts June 15th and will run through August 28th.
Reed City, located in Richmond Township, is the Osceola County Seat.
It was founded around 1870 by William M. Slosson, Fredrick H. Todd, William A. Higbee and James M. Reed. In 1871, the Grand Rapids & Indiana RR reached this point and built a station here.
It became a village 1872 and later a city in 1932.
Reed City is the home of the" Old Rugged Cross," the hymn written by the Rev. George Bennard who lived here. It is also nicknamed "Crossroads City" due to the intersection of US-10 and US-131, and the past celebrations of The Crossroads Celebration which was held every August. It is also "crossroads" to the Pere Marquette Trail and White Pine Trail State Parks, part of Michigan's Rails to Trails. Here, these two trails access the three 3 parks of Reed City, making it an enjoyable opportunity to spend a full day, or hiking one of the trails, (with convenient parking behind the Osceola Inn). The Hersey River also flows through town, and can be viewed from many points within the 5 parks.
