Port Sanilac, Michigan48469

| Around 1840, some Detroiters came here to make tan-bark and built a bark shanty. Passing sailors gave the place the name Bark Shanty Point. Later the citizens petitioned and the village was renamed Port Sanilac after the county. Today, Port Sanilac is a historic waterfront village with a modern harbor facilty, scenic beaches and famous shipwrecks. This combination provides many opportunities to escape urban living and enjoy a more relaxing lifestyle for the summer months or year round. There are varied local attractions. The Sanilac County Underwater Preserve has shipwrecks dating as far back as 1864 and is a treasure trove for scuba divers. The Barn Theater puts on light-hearted productions at modest prices. Located just north of the village limits, Huron Shores Golf Club has a course that is both scenic and challenging.
