Port Hope, Michigan48468

| In 1857, Mr. Southard and Mr. Witcher, while drifting in a small skiff, landed here and named the place Port Hope. The Stafford and Haywood Lumber Mill was built the next year and the town grew. The sawmill chimney in Stafford Park is listed in the National Historic Register. Other buildings, including the home of the village founder William Stafford, are also listed in the register. A county park in the village offers camping and recreational facilities, including lighted tennis courts, a volleyball court, and a ball diamond. Waterfront access for swimming and boating is available and there is also a boat launch.
