Perry is a small residential community located in southern Shiawassee County at the junction of Interstate 69 and M-52. It is supported by small business, local manufacturing and its location as a commuter town to Lansing, about ten miles west.

Named for Admiral Oliver H. Perry who fought the British in the War of 1812, this town was founded in 1850. The first store was built here that year by William P. Laing. In 1876, the Grand Trunk Railroad came through and built a station here, which helped make the town a permanent place on the map. It became incorporated as a village in 1893.
