North Muskegon, situated on the north side of Muskegon Lake in Muskegon County, includes a small peninsula jutting south out into the lake, forming Bear Lake to the north. This is a quiet, scenic residential area, with some businesses located to the northeast in the Four Corners Shopping District. One can get a good view of Muskegon Lake along Ruddiman Ave., which runs by the high school and City Hall. A park is also located on Bear Lake, just a few blocks behind the high school.
North Muskegon was formed because of the lumber boom and originally recorded as Reedsville in 1872, named after first settler Archibald Reed. It was later renamed North Muskegon in 1881, at which time it was incorporated as a village, then as a city in 1891.
