New Haven is located in northeastern Macomb County in southern Lenox Township, approximately three miles from the St. Clair County line. It functions as a bedroom community to the greater Detroit metro area, while still retaining a small-town-like atmosphere.
This town was first settled in 1835, originally named New Baltimore Station. In 1838, it was officially organized and named New Haven by one of the town fathers, Adam A. Bennett. In 1865, the Grand Trunk Railroad built a line through here on the way to Port Huron, which assured the towns permanence. It was incorporated as a village in 1869.
