Mendon, Michigan49072


| Mendon is located in northeastern St. Joseph County on M-60.
The first settler to the area was Gabriel Godfroy, a trader who came in 1829. A Moses Taft moved here in 1835 from Mendon, Massachusetts. In 1837, a Benjamin House mover here from Mendon, New York. House named the city Mendon in 1844, and it was officially platted a year later. In 1858, it was given a station on the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad, leading to its steady growth. It was eventually incorporated into a village in 1875.
Mendon retains its small-town atmosphere today with old style street lighting and a brick walkway to the park by the St. Joseph River. It has several small stores, businesses and resorts. Canoeing is also popular here, with several landings dotted along the river.
