Marshall is the county seat of
Calhoun County located at the junction of I-94 and US-27, in the
center of the county. Marshall is best known for its historic
preservation of Victorian homes and turn-of-the-century architecture in
the downtown area. Marshall is also the home of Isaac Crary, the father
of the Michigan public school system, who helped write the Michigan
Constitution in 1835. Visitors to the town are greeted at the "circle"
by a stately Romanesque fountain which looks east down Main Street,
north to Honolulu House, now a historical museum, and west to National
House, a historic inn in operation since the mid 1800s. Marshalls economy continues to grow, supported by manufacturing and services including auto parts, electronics, insurance, as well as tourism, small businesses, specialty shops and fine restaurants. Experience Marshall for yourself, and become acquainted with a big chunk of Michigans history!
