Jonesville the second largest city in northern Hillsdale County at the junction of US-12 and M-99, with Hillsdale the largest, five miles to the south. Jonesville is supported by a diverse economic base including many small businesses, services, and industries. Manufacturing includes plastics, auto parts and tooling. The headwaters of the St. Joseph River flow here, and you can find an occasional fisherman trying his luck at the park on the near west side of the town.

Jonesville was the first city to be settled and officially registered in Hillsdale County in 1828, when Beniah Jones from Painsville, Ohio moved here. It received a station on the Michigan Southern Railroad in 1841 and was organized as a village in 1855.
