Photos courtesy of: K. Huisjen | Fennville is located in the central-western section of Allegan County, approximately 7 miles from Lake Michigan. This is a thriving agricultural community situated amid pleasant farms and orchards. It is also known as "Goosetown," as many Canada Geese make their home there for the season at the Fennville State Game Area south of town. It celebrates its annual Goose Festival the second weekend of October.
Fennville began back in 1862 when Elam A. Fenn, along with Levi Loomis, built a sawmill here, calling it Fenns Mills. It officially received a Post Office in 1868, and was incorporated as a village a year later. The name changed to Fennville in 1871 when the land was officially platted for the first time. Ironically that same year, the village burned to the ground, and had to be re-platted after it was rebuilt on different land adjacent to where the fire had been. It eventually was incorporated as a city in 1961. Thank you to Bruce for corrections :-)
