Elsie is a small, picturesque-looking town located in the very northeast
corner of Clinton County.
It is supported by local business and some regional industry, including
aerodynamics, auto parts manufacturing and welding materials. The Maple
River flows through the northwest section of town and includes a dam
situated under an old girder bridge structure. Elsie was named after the first child born in the town when it was first settled back in 1857, daughter of Frank Tillotson, one of its first settlers. It was incorporated as a village in 1885. In the last few decades, "Elsie the Cow," is the mascot of its dairy festival every July. A big statue of Elsie cannot be missed standing outside the village hall in the center of town.
