This village was first called Beardsley's Prairie, after Ezra Beardsley, the first settler. In 1828 Thomas H. Edwards, the county's first merchant founded and named the village.
On December 4, 1828 Mr. Edwards became the first postmaster of St. Joseph's. It was later closed and then restored on August 23, 1841, with Henry A. Chapin as its postmaster. On December 29, 1845 the spelling was changed to Edwardsburg, it was platted by Alexander H. Edwards in 1831, and incorporated as a village in 1911.
