Eau Claire, Michigan49111

Photos courtesy of: Cheryl Nelson | Around 1850 the first settlers began arriving to the area now known as Eau Claire. The name was given to the area in 1861 by William Smyth Farmer. He named the community after the French word for "clear water", after nearby Clear Water Creek.
Eau Claire lies in the heart of Michigan's fruit belt. Rolling hills are covered with fruit trees and grape vines. Visitors come from miles around to pick their own fruit at the Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm.
Be sure to attend Eau Claire's annual Cherry Festival held near the 4th of July. The festival has something for everyone: food, parades, golf tournament, sidewalk sales, basketball and volleyball tournaments, and even an ugly farmer contest! Nearby the Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm holds the annual International Cherry Pit & Spit Competition in conjunction with the festival. Don't miss your chance to compete and "spit a pit".
