East Tawas, Michigan

East Tawas is located on Iosco County�s Lake Huron coastline. During the lumber boom Henry Perkins Smith, an investor from New York, sent his son George to look over the area in 1862. In 1867, the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad put a station there. Twenty years later it incorporated as a village, then as a city in 1895. In 1922, it acquired the adjacent resort community of Tawas Beach. East Tawas today remains a major resort area, with a public beach, pier and community center. There are also many motels scattered along US-23. It�s main street is known state-wide as a popular shopping district along with several unique restaurants.
