Eastlake, Michigan49626

Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Eastlake is located on the east side of the Manistee River across from Manistee, just south of M-55 in Manistee County. Situated on a high bluff, it presents a scenic vista of the City of Manistee and the river. Obviously named for its location, this town was begun by Richard Peters, who bought a sawmill and thus platted the land, in 1881 from Louis Sands, who built the mill in 1870. Like so many other towns in the area, it was put on the map by the Pere Marquette Railroad, who made it a station on their line.
Today, Eastlake is primarily a residential community and considered a "suburb" to Manistee. The old town hall still stands and is in use. There is also a park situated in the marshes on the river below the bluff, complete with dock and public boat access.
