Dimondale is located in
Eaton Countys northeastern Windsor Township. It lies a couple miles south of the intersection of I-96 and US-27 and is situated on the Grand River. It functions primarily as a bedroom community to the greater Lansing area, less than 10 miles away. Also supported by a few small businesses, it has retained some of its turn-of-the-century architecture on Main Street. Dimondale was first settled in 1840 by Isaac M. Dimond, who built a dam and sawmill here on the Grand River. In 1856, he added a grist mill and had the land officially platted, naming it after himself. The Lake Shore & Southern Michigan Railroad came through here in 1878, building a station, which secured the towns permanence into the future. It was eventually incorporated as a village in 1906.
