De Witt, Michigan48820

Photo Courtesy Ken Huisjen | DeWitt is located in southern Clinton County approximately seven miles north of Lansing. It functions primarily as a bedroom community to the Lansing area, but also contains some small businesses and stores. A major point of interest here is the Looking Glass River, which lazily flows through the park on the south side of town, the mirror-like effect of which is easily seen.
DeWitt was named after De Witt Clinton, Governor of New York during the 1830s. It was first settled by Captain David Scott, the city father who moved here from Ann Arbor in 1833 and platted the land. The town remained under the jurisdiction of De Witt Township until 1928, when it was incorporated as a village.
