Deerfield, Michigan49238

Photo Courtesy Ken Huisjen | Deerfield is located on the eastern border of Lenawee County, with the eastern border of the town touching the Monroe County line. The River Raisin runs through the south part of town, just behind the city office. It is primarily an agricultural community, but also a commuter town because of its adjunct location to Adrian, ten miles west, and Toledo, Ohio, about 15 miles southeast. It has a large grain elevator, a few dozen small businesses and stores, and its own school system.
Deerfield began in 1824, when William Kedzie from Delhi, New York bought the first plot of land here. He became the first postmaster in 1828, naming it Kedzies Grove. It was renamed Deerfield in 1837because of the large number of deer roaming the area. It eventually was incorporated as a village in 1873.
