Custer, Michigan49045

Photos courtesy of: Ken Huisjen | Custer is located on US-10 in western Mason County . This is a small, agricultural community that is also supported by tourism from canoers: the Pere Marquette River, complete with canoe landing and access, flows through a park a mile south of town. It has several small businesses, stores, a restaurant and a meat packaging plant.
Custer originated around 1878 as a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad, platted by Charles E. Roussegui. It was named in 1876 after General George Armstrong Custer, who had been killed in the battle of Little Big Horn that same year.
