Coopersville, Michigan

Coopersville is located in northeastern Ottawa County .
It functions primarily as a commuter city to both the larger Muskegon and Grand Rapids Metropolitan areas. It also has a diverse local economic base on the grow with many small businesses and manufacturing facilities. Coopersville is distinctly known for being the home of the Coopersville & Marne Railway, a small tourist passenger line that has played a significant role in preserving some vintage pieces of America�s Railroad history, including several unique engines, freight and passenger cars.

Coopersville was named for Benjamin F. Cooper, from Utica, New York, who settled here in 1845. He purchased 640 acres of land and built a sawmill. Originally named Polkton after then President James K. Polk, it was renamed Coopersville in 1859 after Cooper offered all the land to the town if it was named after him. It eventually was incorporated into a village in 1871.
