Concord is located in western Jackson County along M-60. This picturesque town, with its well cared for turn-of-the-century buildings, is situated on the Kalamazoo River, overlooking a dam pond to the northeast. It functions primarily as an adjunct commuter town to the greater Jackson area, about ten miles to the east, and is also supported by some local small businesses and manufacturing.
Concord was first settled by William Van Fossen in 1832 when he built the first house here, calling it Van Fossenville. He officially named it Concord when he applied for a post office, feeling that the community was living in close harmony. It was officially incorporated as a village in 1871.
