Burr Oak, Michigan - 49030 |
|||||||||
|
Burr Oak is located in southeastern St. Joseph County, just a couple of miles north of US-12. This area was first settled in 1835. A post office was built in 1837 with Julius A. Thompson becoming the first postmaster. In 1852, William Lock donated land for a railroad station provided the town would be renamed: Lock’s Station, which it was. In 1857, the town was renamed back to Burr Oak by popular demand, and it officially incorporated into a village two years later.
