Wheeler Township, Michigan

Located in the northwest corner of Gratiot County, Wheeler Township's communities are the incorporated Village of Breckenridge and the small village of Wheeler, located 2 miles east on M-46. Both are located between Saginaw and St. Louis, Michigan. The village and township were named after James B. Wheeler, an early settler. It was organized in 1861 and held its first elections in April of 1862.
It holds within it boundaries, the Breckenridge Community Schools, Michigan Agricultural Commodities, Inc. the main ag-processor this rich agricultural area, a Renaissance Zone, two museums sites established by the Breckenridge-Wheeler Area Historical Society: The Plank Road Museum and the Drake Memorial House; The Breckenridge Area Chamber of Commerce; and a strip of businesses along M46.
