West Branch Township, Michigan
West Branch Township is located in the central/eastern region of Missaukee County.
It was named because of the headwaters the West Branch of the Muskegon River which begin there. The area also consists of rural farmland, with several creeks and marshy areas, including the Haymarsh Swamp, which is part of the Missaukee State Forest. It is bordered on the south by M-55.
This township once had a flourishing community during the Lumber Era called Star City, which began in 1883. The township itself organized in 1872.
