Washington Township, Michigan
|
Washington Twp was originally surveyed in 1816 and was subsequently organized as a Township in 1827, only five years after Macomb County was formed. At the time of its formation, Washington and Bruce Twp were combined.
The Township's first inhabitants, other than the Native Americans, were from New York an settled near the Village of Romeo. The remaining residents were widely despersed throughout the combined two townships.
The township has historically been a productive farming community, with a strong emphasis on orchards. Beginning in the 1950's much of the farmland had been sold and converted to subdivisions. |
