Springdale Township, named for several flowing springs found in the area, was organized in 1870. Located on the northern border of Manistee County, the southern two thirds of this rural township are contained in the Pere Marquette State Forest. This scenic area includes Healy Lake as well as many two-track trails.

The Betsie River, famous for its trout fishing, flows through the northern section of the township. It can best be observed at the crossing of M-115, which cuts through the township�s northeast corner.
