Seville Township is located in the southwestern corner of Gratiot County. It is primarily a rural, farming community. Its main geographical feature is the Pine River, best viewed from the bridge on M-46, or from Riverdale, its main community, just south of M-46. The first settlers to the area were John D. Mallory and Henry Boyd, who in 1856 organized the town of Seville, then a station on the Pere Marquette RR. The town existed until 1884 when the post office closed. The name remained for the township, however.
