Houghton Lake Roscommon Township Population: 2000() 1990() Change()
Roscommon Township is located in southwestern Roscommon County on the southern end of Houghton Lake, the largest inland lake in Michigan. It also includes what is known as the community of Houghton Lake, which primarily of a heavily traveled beltway-like section approximately 7 miles long on M-55 between US-27 and M-18. It is governed by Roscommon township, and has its own school system.
This area is dotted with many resorts, gift shops, restaurants and golf courses, along with several marinas and a children�s amusement park. It is known for its annual celebration of "Tip-Up Town" each January, which consists of a real town, complete with post office, erected for several days along the ice on the lake. Many winter sports activities and events take place there, including ice fishing contests and snowmobiling. |
