Temple - Redding Township Population: 2000() 1990() Change()
Temple is located in Redding Township in the northwestern section of Clare County. This small community is located in the middle of the Au Sable State Forest where the Muskegon River crosses M-61. It includes a restaurant and a canoe livery.
Temple was founded in 1889 when the Toledo & Ann Arbor Railroad built its line through here. At that time, a Mary Campbell donated some of her land to the city and it was called Campbell City in her honor. It was renamed Temple a year later after another local citizen, Martin Temple. |
