Hale - Plainfield Township, Michigan

Hale is located in northwestern Iosco Countys Plainfield Township on M-65. This community began as a lumbering camp, started by New York investor, C. D. Hale, in 1880. The creek and nearby lake 2 miles west made it an ideal location for floating and distributing wood. The Detroit, Bay City & Alpena Railroad came to the area in 1889, helping to make it a permanent location on the map.

Today, Hale is a fast growing community because of its location to so many lakes and streams, the Au Sable River and "Kirtlands Warbler Country." Although unorganized as a village, it has taken on the characteristics of an "edge city," with businesses and housing developments flourishing along the M-65 strip. With so many recreational opportunities nearby, this community will no doubt continue its rapid growth as an ideal area to live and experience Michigans great North Country!
