Orient Township is located in the southeastern corner of Osceola County. It contains the small community of Sears and the intersection of US-10 and M-66, (commonly known as Brook’s Corners).
Big Lake County Park is also located here, just a few miles south of Sears. The Chippewa River also runs through this township, cutting through this small corner of the county.
First settled in 1868, the township was organized April 4, 1870. Nelson Ferguson was elected Supervisor. The railroad did not come to the township until 1871.
Its main crops were hay, potatos and grain. Early in the township's history, church services were held by Rev. T.M. Huddle, a United Brethren minister, every two weeks in the school house.
Robert S. Covert became the first postmaster of the rural post office of Orient in 1900.
