Middle Branch Township, Michigan
49665
 |
Founded in 1867, Middle Branch was one of the first six townships started before Osceola County was formed, with J.B. McFarlane as the supervisor. The township has always had a sparse population.
The main money source was lumbering, though agricultural crops of hay and potatoes grew well. The local citizens had to travel to Sears and Evart to trade, get mail, and get to the railroad. Today, this township remains primarily agricultural and rural.
Two features of this area are worth noting: the headwaters of the Middle Branch River, (a good trout stream), start here, also the intersection of M-115 and M-66. |
