Mecosta Township is located on the western side of Mecosta County. The highlight of this township is Rogers Dam, on the Muskegon river, which is the biggest dam in the county. The community of Rogers Heights is located above the dam on the western end of the pond. This very scenic area can be accessed by following Old 131, (Northland Drive), south from Big Rapids approximately 5 miles. A park is located above the dam. There is also a hiking trail below the dam, just before the Old 131 bridge on its the N. side. A public access to the dam pond is also available and can be found by following 11 Mile Rd. east from Rogers Heights to the river, then turning right. In addition to the dam, the White Pine Rails-to-Trails State Park runs through this township. |
