Hartwick Township Oceola County, Michigan

Hartwick township is located in central/northeast Osceola County. It is primarily a rural area, dotted with woods, marshes and small farms. Its main features include Hicks Lake and the small community of Avondale.

The township is watered by the Middle Branch River running through it.

Smith Hawking was the first settler in this area in 1866 and the first township supervisor in 1870.

In 1881, general storekeeper Alfred Davis became the first postmaster. The office remained open until 1911.
