	Empire Township is composed of the southwestern corner of Leelanau County on Lake Michigan. Its main community is the village of Empire, where the township hall is located. This area is considered the entrance to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. A good place to observe the Dunes and neighboring Glen Lake is at the Aylsworth-Johnson Lookout, on Benzonia Rd. just a few miles north of M-72. Also, the high point on the Dunes can be seen almost anywhere from the beach in this township looking north. This area is a great place for hiking and swimming.
